Haas’s Esteban Ocon has detailed the unusual fear he has after the first qualifying session of 2026.
After the Australian Grand Prix qualifying, Esteban Ocon expressed feeling overwhelmed by the demands placed on F1 drivers, noting that his head “is still about to explode” with all the pressures.
Ocon secured the 13th position on the grid in Melbourne, one spot behind his teammate Oliver Bearman, as the challenges of the new energy requirements for drivers became apparent.
The reaction to the energy-harvesting rules has been largely negative among drivers, with even top teams like McLaren, powered by Mercedes HPP, facing difficulties due to the regulations.
The Albert Park circuit, known for its long straights and lack of heavy braking zones, presents additional challenges for energy harvesting, intensifying the workload for drivers like Ocon.
Ocon emphasized the artificial nature of the new rules and highlighted the technical difficulties faced by drivers, such as losing time due to throttle control issues.
Despite feeling that he missed a chance for a Q3 spot in qualifying, Ocon attributed his performance to instability in his car, which was a deviation from the initial sessions.
